Ok \u2013 let\u2019s start at the beginning.\u00a0 I was told from a lovely, generous couple to hold Friday, June 24th<\/sup> open.\u00a0 Fine, I said,\u00a0looking at my blank calendar, \u00a0I had nothing going on of any importance. \u00a0So I updated my smartphone and saved the date.<\/p>\n

And, then on Wednesday, I got the call.\u00a0 \u201cSurprise, you are going to see Hamilton on Friday night\u201d\u2026I gasped, gulped and think I uttered \u201cThank you.” I’m \u00a0not quite sure, I think I was in shock. \u00a0What I do know was that I was beside myself with excitement. Then Friday night came and there we were. The lovely, generous couple was my daughter and son-in-law and my daughter \u00a0invited me because she knew how much I wanted to see this historical groundbreaking musical.<\/p>\n

The theatre district was packed especially around the Richard Rodgers Theatre\u00a0where Hamilton is playing.\u00a0 We were in the ticket holders’ line waiting to have our bags searched and our tickets scanned along with the rest of the\u00a0\u00a0very lucky ticket holders. \u00a0 Then loud\u00a0cheers and applause erupted next to us.<\/p>\n

No, not because a celebrity arrived, it \u00a0was the cancellation line. \u00a0You \u00a0know that line, where people \u00a0stand and wait \u00a0for the very \u00a0slim chance that there will be cancellations and\u00a0\u00a0they’ll get a ticket? \u00a0 The news spread quickly down the line\u00a0 that one of their own was “in”!\u00a0\u00a0The woman next in the line told us\u00a0\u00a0that the lucky recipient had been waiting \u00a0and working the line\u00a0\u00a0for every performance\u00a0since Monday or Tuesday and it was Friday. Now you could sense the excitement\u00a0of \u00a0 others in the line as \u00a0they saw it was\u00a0possible – possible that they too will have a chance to get that prized\u00a0\u00a0Hamilton ticket and \u00a0at regular prices no less.<\/p>\n

I’ve been to the theater my entire life and i don’t remember ever being with such a \u00a0happy, accommodating, smiling, excited crowd. \u00a0I went to our really really great seats and my daughter stopped to get us water, \u00a0wine and \u00a0M&Ms.(our dinner). \u00a0I must say, I do like it that most\u00a0\u00a0theaters allow you to bring their \u00a0wine in expensive little souvenir cups into the theatre itself. \u00a0I love sitting in my seat, relaxing, reading the Playbill and sipping on that glass of mediocre wine waiting for the lights to dim. \u00a0 \u00a0By the way, the theatre has invented a new drink named after the show, “Hamiltini”…. \u00a0clever.<\/p>\n

As for Hamilton, \u00a0no matter what you’ve read or what you’ve heard, it is all of that and more! \u00a0We were fortunate to see it before the departure of Lin-Manuel Miranda and the others. However, I have no doubt that the casting will continue to be outstanding especially with Javier Munoz taking over the role of Hamilton as he’s been doing at every Sunday matin\u00e9e.<\/p>\n

I have to give a “shout out” to my eight year old granddaughter. \u00a0Her parents have seen the show and\u00a0downloaded the music to their phones. My\u00a0\u00a0granddaughter loves the music and sings the songs to me all the time.\u00a0\u00a0 I could mouth “Alexander Hamilton” and “My Shot”\u00a0along with the best of them!<\/p>\n

Doing my research I found many\u00a0<\/b>sites on how to get tickets and stories on the cancellation and in-person lottery lines. \u00a0 I’ve listed some below but also\u00a0\u2013 suggest you google “Hamilton”\u00a0and read about the experiences and methods people are using to get tixs.<\/p>\n

Important to know:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0 You may know this, but if not, \u00a0there are tickets that won’t cause you to mortgage your \u00a0house, your \u00a0apartment, or sell those lovely jewels or that Picasso! But it takes a little work on your part.<\/p>\n
