Or..what I hear a lot when I’m out of town.<\/h6>\n

I had to take the LIRR\u00a0at Penn Station a few weeks ago and forgot how crowded, noisy, messy with\u00a0 people, vendors, cars,taxis, buses all trying to get somewhere.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0If that was\u00a0 the first impression that I had as a tourist arriving in NYC and coming\u00a0 out of Penn Station, I too would question the sanity of anyone choosing to live here.\u00a0 Of course, once away from\u00a0 that chaos, the excitement of this City starts to hit and that first impression begins to dissipate at least for a while.<\/p>\n

Upper West Side Neighborhood<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

I think that all tourists should be required (rather strong word) or encouraged (better word)\u00a0 to visit a neighborhood where people actually live.\u00a0 You know, where they\u00a0 work, go to school, buy groceries,\u00a0 go to kids’ sports games like families do.\u00a0 Visitors\u00a0 might then have a better idea of why living in the City in a tiny expensive \u00a0apartment might have some pluses.\u00a0 Now the really young \u2013 teenagers, kids with dreams-this is where they want to be.\u00a0 They get it.<\/p>\n

Upper East Side Neighborhood<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

I\u2019ve written about our neighborhoods before, but I’m making this suggestion. If \u00a0you\u00a0 are coming in to see the sights,\u00a0 a show, eat at a great restaurant, visit a museum how about making another plan to venture out of those popular\u00a0 and interesting places and find\u00a0 a neighborhood to walk around.\u00a0 A great one is a few blocks from the important and heavily tourist area of the\u00a0 World Trade Center. Cross over West Side Highway to\u00a0 Murray Street which is very easy to find.\u00a0 \u00a0If it\u2019s a weekend or in the evening watch the kids play soccer or baseball on the large sports field.\u00a0 The neighborhood has a library\u00a0 up the street \u2013 a school nearby \u2013grocery stores and restaurants.\u00a0 Walk to the river \u2013 and then walk along the river \u2013 see families having picnics on the grass \u2013 napping and reading, playing ball, climbing and swinging in the playgrounds.<\/p>\n

Near Murray Street and Battery Park Neighborhood<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

These neighborhoods are\u00a0 all over the City. Granted some more dense than others, but it gives a glimpse into the lives of New Yorkers who live, retire and work here\u00a0 and enjoy most everything that visitors do with a great perk…home is just around the corner.\u00a0 Maybe you still won’t want that small apartment without a yard,\u00a0 but maybe you’ll understand why some of us do.<\/p>\n
