The price for a senior pass price is about to go up dramatically, and the rush is on.<\/p>\n<p>The National Parks Department will raise the price of the Senior Lifetime Pass to $80 on August 28; a new $20 annual Senior Pass will become available at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>On its website, the Parks Department promises that all eligible senior pass orders placed online before 11:59pm\u00a0EDT on August 27, or mail orders postmarked on or before the 27th, will be processed at the $10 price. (There\u2019s also an additional $10 processing charge.)<\/p>\n<p>Why the steep increase? Blame Congress. It\u2019s an indirect result of the America the Beautiful parks pass going up as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/114th-congress\/house-bill\/4680\/text\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">legislated by Congress<\/a> in 2016.<\/p>\n<h6>How to Get Your Senior Lifetime Pass<\/h6>\n<p>Unless you plan to visit a National Parks site before August 27, fire up your computer now.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/store.usgs.gov\/senior-pass\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here<\/a> to access the store\u2019s Senior Pass Page, where you\u2019ll find all the info about the pass.<\/li>\n<li>On the Senior Pass Page, you\u2019ll see a link to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/yourpassnow.com\/ParkPass\/park\/senior\/SeniorPassInfoCollect\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Purchase your pass via Your Pass Now<\/a>.\u201d This is a digital validation service that\u2019s helping the department handle the rush of applications by automatically verifying your age against public documents. That\u2019s good news for you, because it saves you having to upload an image of your driver\u2019s license or other state issued ID. You <em>will<\/em> have to enter your personal details, including Social Security number, but Your Pass Now says it deletes all information once your application has been processed.<\/li>\n<li>If you can\u2019t bring yourself to enter your Social Security Number (or the site doesn\u2019t work for you), you can use the standard application <a href=\"https:\/\/store.usgs.gov\/senior-pass-alternate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a> and upload a photo or scan of your ID.<\/li>\n<li>Print or save your confirmation page\u2014due to the last minute crush, it can take up to 12 weeks to receive your pass; meanwhile you can use your confirmation for entry to the National Parks.<\/li>\n<li>You can also apply by mail by printing and completing <a href=\"https:\/\/store.usgs.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/senior_pass_application.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this application<\/a>\u00a0along with a photocopy of your ID.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once you get your pass, hold on to it; the passes are non-refundable and can\u2019t be replaced if lost or stolen.<\/p>\n<p>Questions?
