About Me

My name is Kay Lackmann

and I didn’t think about doing a blog

until one afternoon this happened.

Over the years I’ve written to my siblings and friends little vignettes about my life in this great City. I’d just finished reading about a recent visit to MOMA to my daughter and granddaughter, when my daughter said, “Mom, you should write a blog.” I thought for a moment and said, “You know, I could do that.”

So thanks to my daughter, here I am!

To begin with, I’ve always loved to write and graduated from CW Post Univ. with a degree in English; which, by the way, took me 12 years . I graduated at 50 with honors. Before college and during, I built three careers. One was the development with my husband of the family food service business, one was helping a friend further develop his staffing company and last, and the one I’m proudest of, was raising my three children. Bragging rights, please! Thank you! I retired ten years ago and with my children grown and sadly becoming a widow—I sold my house on Long Island and moved into the City.  Always my dream.

I live on the upper east side in a small one-bedroom apartment. Happily, my children are close by and have given me seven fantastic granddaughters. You’ll see that they, along with the rest of my family and friends, are often part of my stories. But most of the time – it’s a solo act for me as I go exploring.

It would be great to hear from you and read your stories about New York.  I’ve learned so much from others, I’d love to learn from you!

Note on the photo above – hats and glasses are a girl’s best friend I say, however, I’m working on one sans hats and glasses! Coming soon.
